Learning how to speak in Europe
Somewhere between unfamiliar streets and long train rides, something began to shift. If the earlier part of this journey was about listening, this was different. Europe didn’t give me a voice. It showed me I already had one.
The moments that stayed with me weren’t the landmarks, but the people. Conversations in bars, on trains, in passing. Brief, unplanned, but real. There was no pressure to be anything in particular. Just a willingness to connect.
I realised speaking isn’t about having something impressive to say. It’s about being present enough to say something honest. Even if it’s unfinished.
When you’re far from home, the usual labels fall away. You’re not defined by your work or routine. You’re just you, meeting the world as it is. That’s where the shift happens. You stop overthinking your words. You stop waiting until you feel ready. You just begin.
Small moments build confidence. A conversation started. A story shared. A part of yourself revealed without fully knowing how it will land. And over time, your voice evolves. Not into something new, but into something more true. Maybe that’s what this chapter was about. Not finding a voice, but allowing it.
